Associate Director 

Alex Johnston is the Associate Director of the Virginia College Advising Corps (VCAC). Alex returned to VCAC to serve as an assistant director in 2019 after serving as a college adviser from 2013 to 2015 in Pittsylvania County, VA. VCAC is a statewide college access program that hires recent college graduates to increase the number of low-income, first-generation, and underrepresented high school students who enter and complete higher education. In addition to her current role with VCAC, Alex continues equity and access work at the University of Virginia in her efforts to support first-generation students and promote conversations across difference.

Prior to her role as assistant director with VCAC, Alex worked as a program coordinator in student affairs at the University of Virginia, providing program management to a student fellowship experience, among other responsibilities. Prior to that, Alex worked as a high school counselor in Apex, NC after earning her M.Ed. in School Counseling from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2016. She earned her B.A. in Sociology and Women, Gender, and Sexuality from the University of Virginia in 2013.
