At last year’s VirginiaCAN conference, all attendees were granted a complimentary membership to VirginiaCAN, which ended June 30, 2007. VirginiaCAN is now ready to accept members and the Board has established the following membership categories:

Membership Application

 

Individual Membership Categories – each member has one vote

 

1. Provider – those individuals actively involved in the direct day-to-day provisions of access services (including policy development and implementation) which would include individuals from non-profit access organizations as well as individuals involved in an individual capacity as a free-standing non-profit access provider. Dues are $25 annually. Staff or members of the following could join as a Provider:

 

college access program, college access center, school counselor, public or private K-12 school employee, federal TRIO or GEAR UP program or college outreach program.

 

2. Supporters – individuals representing either non-profit or for-profit government agencies, colleges, universities, and schools. Also those staff members of non-profit organizations not providing direct access services but provide support or products for access providers. Dues are $50 annually. Staff or members of following can join as a Supporter:

 

SCHEV employees, staff or non-profit associations with interest in postsecondary education; admissions or financial aid officers, staff of private non-profit foundations; members of non-profit organizations with active college access interests.

 

3. Affiliates – individuals not otherwise eligible under another category and not currently employed by a for-profit organization involved primarily in college-access related activities. Dues are $10 annually. The category includes:

 

individuals enrolled at least ½ time as a postsecondary student pursuing a career in access; K-12 students and/or family members; retired individuals who are no longer employed full-time in access related activities.

 

Organizational Membership Categories

 

1. Partner – those organizations involved in non-profit access services/issues/education. Individual membership in the preceding classes of membership is permitted in addition to organizational membership. Dues and vote based on organization size.

 

$100 for organizations with up to 10 person with one vote

$250 for organizations of 10 – 25 person with three votes

$500 for organizations with more than 25 person with 5 votes

 

2. Sponsors/Vendors – lenders, banks, for-profit organizations that have an interest in college access or provides college access materials/resources/services. Dues are $500 annually and members in this class will NOT be provided a vote. Membership privileges include participation in professional development activities; access to resources the advisory board may recommend to the corporate board, discount conference registration fee; participation in the VirginiaCAN listserve.
